Applications Now Being Accepted

We are starting the adoption process of accepting applicants interested in adopting one of these two very fine colts.  Applications will be reviewed during the months of September and a new home chosen in October.  However, they will remain at CFH until they have been gelded which we are anticipating will be late October.

Applications can be downloaded using the link Adoption Application.  You can email your completed application to careforthehorses@msn.com, or mail to Care For The Horses, PO Box 884, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635.  Be sure to include pictures of your stabling, fencing and other animals if you have them.

Our requirements are that you continue to train the horses, provide adequate shade (lean-to, shed, or barn, etc.), room to run and there must be other horses on premise to keep them company.

We will adopt out separately or together depending upon the best situation for them.  You can make an appointment to see Lightening and Cowboy by calling Ann Jost at 520-559-2224 or by email at careforthehorses@msn.com.

Adoption fee will be $350 each, they do not have papers.

Our Arab Babies are Growing Big & Strong

It has been 60 days since the Arab babies arrived.  They were in very bad health upon arrival to our facility June 23rd.  Both horses were suffering from EHV and mutliple health issues.  Those are now taken care of and they are now ready to start being "normal" growing colts.

Lightening (below) had great ddifficulty in getting upnd had to be helped.  In the process of struggling to get up by himself he suffered many open wounds to his legs and his hips were very sore.

                            Today you can see he is a happy healthy growing boy.





Coboy was actually the worst of the too, having ulcers and some hip issues.

He is now a very handsome boy and his gait has corrected itself and he is full of energy

More Test Results - Not Good

Little Cowboy has continued to have a horrible choking cough which came back with a vengance last week. Blood tests and swabs were done to try and determine what we are battling with him.
Here are the results:  We will treat per veterinarian instructions.

SCID Test is Negative for Cowboy

Playtime Before the Veterinarian Visit

Tody Dr. Dusti Prentice came out to check a lump that was found on Cowboys lower left jaw. Unsure if it was a tooth growing in incorrectly or an abcess we had her come out to see what is going on.  X-rays were taken and it was determined he has a mild periosteal reaction/bone callus along manible at level of 306 from possible non-displaced fracture or severe bruise from being kicked or hitting his head on something.

We will keep an eye on it tomake sure it does not become painful, swollen or abcess.

Look at us run!!!!!

 We have been running and playing all morning.  First we ate, then we played, then we slept in the sunshine.  Just look at us go!  And, just to add to the fun of the day, we gave everyone a merry chase around the paddock before we let them catch us......We do look good don't we?  Look at all the weight we have put on, and see, Lightning has NO bandages on his front legs!  His left knee is healed and his right is looking very good.  Thank you, everyone!  We love that you care for us.

CA Test Results - Good News

We have received the CA test back on Lightening and they came back negative!!

We will be running the SCID test on Cowboy as he still has a cough, is anemic and shows other clinical signs.  Test results are being mailed in today.  Results will be posted as soon as they come back.
